Stephanie Slater, a social worker and the founder of The Rooted Child, has over 30 years of experience supporting children and families. Her work spans a variety of settings, most notably, preschools, where she has helped educators differentiate their teaching strategies to meet the unique needs of each child. Her work at a DC preschool over the last 22 years not only changed the trajectory of many students' learning journeys, but also supported innumerable families through the challenges of parenting while changing the school’s landscape for inclusion exponentially.

Stephanie’s deep understanding of early childhood development equips her to guide families through a comprehensive, multidisciplinary evaluation process, ensuring a clearer picture of their child's needs. Stephanie’s holistic approach is rooted in good communication and relationships. She considers all systems involved to create a support structure that benefits the whole family.

Throughout her career, Stephanie has collaborated with professionals across several pediatric fields, including speech pathology, occupational therapy, psychology, vision therapy, and behavioral therapy in order to provide holistic support. A strong advocate for children and inclusivity, she is committed to ensuring that every child receives the right therapies and interventions to thrive.

Stephanie believes that all children are capable and that by tending to the roots of child development, every child will succeed.
